The Courage to Rest

My most cherished things are helping children thrive, the moments you spend with me, staying focused on what matters most, authentic relationships, and our family of five.  If these are my most cherished things, it’s important to me to gather what is scattered in my own mind and renew my heart for the days ahead.  It is important to rest. Only when I am resourced can I attend.

If I could wish one thing for you today, it is that you find moments, hours, or even days of rest.  I am on a mission to create that too.

Life is too short.

As Learn Forward shifts into exploring and considering what’s necessary for a , let’s begin with rest.  Everyone is talking about it!  Life coaches everywhere.  Arianna Huffington. Even God said “On the seventh day…”  It’s essential.

In the resting, I’m holding the next creative season, leaving space for the ideas to begin their spring-time opening.

This month, in the Learn Forward newsletter for subscribers, I wrote about how I am heading back to the original five journeys to unpack them further.

With the next season upon us, I want to go back to the roots.  Maybe the tree has been dormant for a season, but now it’s time to breathe new life, specifically into the five journeys.

How can we use these five journeys to help us focus on what matters most?  How will they ignite our courage?

I want Learn Forward to create content to help us focus on what matters most.  When I was writing the book, I kept reminding the team, “I’m going out into the world saying these five journeys are what matter most.  But, surely I don’t have all of the answers. I want to invite a conversation.”

In the conversation, I want to include courageous voices of parents and teachers who will share their stories.  I want to consider how our stories relate with the five most important journeys:  faith, worthiness, selfhood, belonging, and changemaking.  I want to go back to the basic practices of how to take a breath, amidst our stories.

Do you have ideas or feedback?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!  Please email hello@learnforward.ca.

The Learn Forward team  and Willowstone Academy team have invested so much in the process.  They are thoughtful, creative, and dedicated individuals who work to see children thrive!  I am eternally grateful for their contributions.

Journal Questions:

  • How are you creating space and time to rest?
  • What creative energy is beckoning at your door and hoping for your attention?
  • What is dormant in your life that is worth going back to?
  • What matters most to you?

I wish you rest in this season.  I welcome your stories into our Learn Forward community.  I hope you’ll engage with me on the courageous pilgrimage to discover what matters most.

For the sake of the children,

Karine

PS  It was a delight to create the webinar series “Connecting in Our Schools” and I know valuable information on how we can foster cultures of community in our local contexts emerged.  BIG thanks to those of you who participated live!  If you are still interested in the recordings, please contact us at hello@learnforward.ca.
